Hawaii Loa Ridge Quiets Down

We hope that many of you used the contact information posted on this web site file a formal complaint with the State Department of Health - Noise Section.
We also hope you saw June Watanabe's Kokua Line story in the October 12, 2011 Star Advertiser. Entitled "No Laws Moderate the Level of Noise from Construction," Ms. Watanabe answer to the question, " Question: Why can't anything be done about excessive noises emanating from a residential construction site on Puuikena Drive atop Hawaii Loa Ridge for more than two months? Numerous residents of Aina Haina have complained to the state Department of Health, but nothing has been done to mitigate the noise that's been going on since Aug. 1. The hydraulic hammering generally goes on from 10 a.m. daily, Monday through Friday. Doesn't the Health Department have noise regulations for alleviating the noise? If so, why isn't it enforcing its own rules and regulations? The constant noise is driving almost everyone batty."

Mahalo to June for researching the story and for bringing it to public attention.
Residents previously bothered by the noise have noticed things are quieter up there. For that, we thank the home owner and construction company for recognizing that people who work at night sleep during the day; that many residents work at home; and that Aina Haina is home to many elderly residents and people with medical conditions whose health and well being is dependent on the generally peaceful surroundings.
